September 27, 2008 Welcome!

My name is Joan Hembree and welcome to my website. I have been involved with Chihuahuas for over 50 years, first with my Mother, then with my three daughters. Along with my husband Jim, I started the current kennel in 2001.

It is our policy to have the new litter of puppies vet checked and dewclaws removed the first business day after birth to assure the newborns and mother are in good health. We will occasionally breed our females to an outside stud, which may result in us having a smooth coat puppy in the litter. For the most part, though, we specialize in breeding long coats.

We also offer our in-house male Magic for stud service. He is a black and white 6 year old long coat with 15 champions in his five-generation pedigree.

We release our puppies after they receive their first shots at eight weeks old. We give limited registration on our AKC papers after we determine that the puppy has exceeded our health and quality standards. Full AKC papers are availabe for a small fee. On the rare occasion that the pup does not meet these standards, we will sell it with no papers at a lower price.

Nothing gives us greater pleasure than seeing the day the new owners pick out their puppy and a few weeks later, getting their new furbaby to take home with them. As a testament to the quality and personality of our dogs, we have had seven repeat buyers in the past six years!

Please visit this website often, especially when we have a new litter and update the site often.

Tux, the last of Myia's most recent litter is ready for some lucky person(s) to give him a forever home.

We call him Tux because h'e black with a white diamond on his chest, like a tuxedo.

Tux is a real lover. He has all the energy and joy you'd expect from a puppy, but he love to be pet and is a calm, happy lap dog as well. He's also doing a fantastic job at using the newspapers to do his business, but isn't yet big enough to push the doggy-door open.

Tux has had all the requisite vet care: he's had his dewclaws removed, had his shots, been wormed and had a general checkup. He weighed 1 pound, 13 ounces at his eight week checkup.

September 27, 2008 New Website Design

When we went "online" in 2002, Jim created our website, made every update, wrote every word and posted every picture since.

Starting this month, my daughter Bonnie will take over the website, adding her eye for detail, her creative flair and a good dose of computer know-how to the site. To start with, she's moving things around a bit to make it easier to update, and adding a newspaper-like layout.

Then, she's added a Headlines section at the top of the home page that will contain links to the most recent and significant updates. This will make it easy to find what's new without fishing around.

Last, rumor has it that she and Magic have been in secret negotiation about web space. I'm speculating that Magic may be writing a column.
